Movie night at home: build the perfect snack bar
Streaming has replaced the cinema run, but the snack bar is one tradition worth keeping. With a little setup, a home movie night can feel like opening night.
The equipment
A benchtop popcorn machine is the hero of the setup — it pops a full batch in minutes and keeps the theatre smell going all evening. A cotton candy machine turns the interval into an event, especially with younger audiences.
Build the bar
- Start with the classics: butter salt, cheese and caramel toppings in shakers.
- Add a "sweet" corner with fairy floss cones and a jar of chocolate buds.
- Cardboard trays or striped boxes make every serve feel like a purchase, not a pantry raid.
Set the scene
- String lights or a small marquee board above the bench.
- A printed "now showing" sign with the movie title.
- Dim the lights at preview time and start the popper — the sound is the trailer.
Do it once and the family will start requesting movie nights on purpose.
